Motherwell vs Aberdeen Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in seven of Motherwell’s 15 home games this season.
  • Aberdeen have seen both teams score in five of their last eight trips.
  • The Steelmen have scored 1.53 goals at Fir Park this season, with the Dons netting and conceding 1.13 times on average on their travels.

Hosts struggling to keep hold of third place

Motherwell failed to build on their midweek win as the club were held to a 1-1 draw with Hearts over the weekend. The Steelmen still remain in third place, but Aberdeen now sit a single point behind them.

Stephen Robinson’s men have performed quite poorly at Fir Park since the middle of December, picking up four losses from six games and only gaining four points. The fact is their defence have struggled too, as the team have conceded at least once in 10 of their 15 games at home.

However, Motherwell are the joint-fourth top scorers on home soil, where they’ve netted 1.53 times on average and have only failed to score on four occasions. The Steelmen’s attacking facet will also get a boost thanks to the return of David Turnbull in Saturday’s game.

Dons fighting back

Aberdeen went undefeated for a third time in five league games as they turned over a 1-0 deficit to beat Hibs 3-1 over the weekend. The Dons have now managed to close the gap with Motherwell down to a single point; and the team will be eager to take back third place.

However, Derek McInnes’ men have a thorn in their side: they’ve only won once in their last eight away games, as well as picking up five draws along the way. The Pittodrie outfit have one of the better defences on the road, letting in just 17 goals in 15 games. They’ve also scored the same amount of goals on their travels, with their average resting at 1.13 goals.

Steelmen to stay ahead

With only eight games remaining, both teams will be going all in for the rest of the season, especially now the gap between them has closed down significantly. Motherwell have struggled in recent months at home and have only picked up four points from six games; but the Dons have also won just once in their last eight away days, although they’ve also picked up an additional five points from as many draws.

Both teams to score is a good choice here, as it has occurred in just under half Motherwell’s home ties this season, as well as in five of Aberdeen’s last eight away days. We’re also going to back a 2-1 triumph for the Steelmen, as their previous home game was a convincing win and we believe the North Lanarkshire side will be able to make it back-to-back victories.

Moreover, the hosts have scored 1.53 times on average at Fir Park, with Aberdeen struggling to find their mojo in front of goal on the road: they’ve netted just 1.13 times.
