Draw/Celtic

Reason for tip

Celtic have been drawing at half-time before winning their last two games. The same is true of both of Celtic’s previous wins over Motherwell this season. The Steelmen have lost the second half in two of their last four matches and may be running out of gas at this stage of the campaign.

Celtic 2-1

Reason for tip

Celtic have scored multiple goals in five of their last six away Premiership games, scoring exactly two in four of their last five. Three of those were 2-1 wins against Aberdeen, Dundee and Hibs, so another such scoreline may be on the cards, given two of these clubs’ previous meetings have been Celtic wins with both teams on the scoresheet.

Hoops must go to the Well again

Title-chasing Celtic travel to Fir Park in the penultimate round of Premiership fixtures on Wednesday to face a Motherwell side still not certain to finish in the top four. The Steelmen did the Hoops a massive favour on Saturday when they held Hearts to a 1-1 home draw, but they remain only four points clear of fifth-placed Hibs with two games to go.

Jens Askou’s men should still be scrapping for every point available then, albeit Hearts will be concerned that they could ease off if word comes through from Ibrox that Hibs are losing to Rangers.

Motherwell did beat Celtic when they last came to Fir Park just after Christmas, but that was towards the end of Wilfried Nancy’s ill-fated spell in charge. In their two other tussles, under Brendan Rodgers in October and Martin O’Neill in March, the Parkhead club claimed all three points in front of their own fans.

Maeda may shine against Steelmen

Both matches featured plenty of goals and there is a decent chance that trend is repeated with Daizen Maeda arguably finding his best form of the season in recent weeks. After popping up with a crucial goal at Easter Road earlier this month, the Japanese star scored a superb brace to clinch a 3-1 Old Firm Derby win on Sunday.

His second goal left fans of both clubs agog and it would be no surprise to see him bag for Celtic, who have won five league games in a row and four of their last six on the road.

O’Neill’s men should get the job done but it won’t be easy so there looks to be a good angle in on the draw at half-time with Celtic finishing strong to take the points. That has happened in both of their recent league wins and in each of their home wins over Well this term.
