Oxford United Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Oxford sprung a surprise at Bristol City (3-1) last weekend after securing successive back-to-back draws against Coventry and Leicester, and the confident U’s can earn at least a point when they host bottom-club Sheffield United.

Oxford United 1-0

Reason for tip

Sheffield United were beaten 1-0 by Charlton in Chris Wilder’s first game back at the helm and that was their third 1-0 loss in their last four Championship fixtures. An improving Oxford can edge Saturday’s clash by a similar scoreline.

Oxford United vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Sheffield United have lost each of their first six Championship fixtures of the new campaign.
  • The Blades have failed to score in each of their last five Championship matches.
  • Oxford have won one and drawn two of their last three league games, despite facing a trio of tough opponents.

Improving Oxford can heap on misery for Sheffield United

Chris Wilder’s homecoming at Sheffield United didn’t go according to script last weekend when the Blades limped to their sixth successive defeat of the new Championship campaign in a 1-0 reverse against Charlton.

Wilder returned for his third spell at the club to replace recent sacked coach Ruben Selles, though the veteran couldn’t inspire an improved performance in his first fixture back at the helm, and after 90 minutes of frustration, Charlton’s Isaac Olaofe delivered the decisive goal with seconds on the clock.

The rock-bottom Blades have yet to earn a single point this season, while United are still searching just their second goal of the campaign haven’t failed to score in five successive fixtures since the opening weekend.

In contrast, Oxford are a side on the up. The U’s produced a coupon-busting 3-1 win at Bristol City in their last assignment to break their duck for the season and that triumph over the Robins followed impressive back-to-back draws with fancied Leicester (2-2) and Coventry (2-2).

Summer recruit, Brian De Keersmaecker, delivered his best display by a distance for Oxford against Bristol City, registering two assists and parting the Robins’ defence with five key passes, and the talented Belgian schemer could kick on from here.

With home advantage a factor and Sheffield United in disarray, Oxford look well-positioned to extend their unbeaten streak to four games this weekend and siding with the hosts in the double chance market appeals in the circumstances.

Elsewhere, the blunt Blades have lost 1-0 in three of their last four Championship matches and a similar outcome could be worth backing in the correct score stakes.
