New year, new Zwolle?

The appointment of rookie manager Dick Schreuder looks like it may not have been the most wise move by PEC Zwolle as he is yet to win a league game since his arrival last November (D2, L4). Arguably, the Zwolle job was always going to be a tough ask for any manager, given that they have been in freefall all season.

In fact, only five sides in Eredivisie history picked up fewer points at this stage of a season than Zwolle’s current six-point haul while only four scored fewer than their current nine-goal haul. The last side to score fewer than that at this point was Roda of 2016/17, who were unsurprisingly relegated.

Despite the doom and gloom, Schreuder has had the entire winter break to work with his squad and he will hope for a positive result here to kick off the second half of their all but doomed campaign.

If you thought the hosts were bad, then take a look at Willem II. The visitors have picked up just two of the last 33 available points in the Eredivisie, a return which leaves them just five points above the relegation zone ahead of this Friday night encounter.

Willem’s aptly named manager, Fred Grim, saw his side on the day play out three draws from five prior encounters with Zwolle, each of which produced under 2.5 goals. As such, we are going for a 1-1 draw in the correct score market after considering the poor quality of both sides on show here.
