We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Peterborough 2-1 @ 15/2

Reason For Peterborough vs Oxford United Predictions

  • No League 1 team has scored more home goals than Peterborough this season.
  • Peterborough top the table when it comes to shots on target for at home this season.
  • Oxford are in the top six for shots on target for away from home in League 1 this term.
  • More than three goals have been scored in 61% of Peterborough and Oxford’s combined matches this season.

Posh in red-hot form

It looked as though things were once again turning sour for Peterborough around the turn of the year, but 2020 has been kind to Darren Ferguson’s men so far. Posh come into this fixture having stormed into 3rd place thanks to four wins on the bounce. Not only have they won each of their last four league games, but Saturday’s hosts have done so by beating some very strong teams, including Ipswich, Rotherham and Wycombe, all of whom are currently in the top six.

ABAX has become something of a fortress this term. Peterborough have won nine out of 14 at home, losing only two of their other five. Scorers of 31 goals in 14 home games, Posh have been imperious in the final third in front of their own fans. They’ve scored six in their last two at home and have notched two or more on nine occasions. Such efforts bode well ahead of a match against an Oxford side that has leaked a few goals of late.

U’s stagnating

While Peterborough have moved in the right direction in the last month or so, Oxford have slipped from their lofty perch. The U’s are now outside of the top six, though they did stop the rot by securing a first win in five last time out.

On their own patch, Oxford are a very tough team to face, but they’ve not been quite the same side on the road, especially at the back. Karl Robinson’s men, who showed their quality by scoring twice to take Newcastle to extra-time in the FA Cup earlier this week, have conceded in each of their last four travelling matches, while they’ve kept a clean sheet in just one of their last eight. Not ideal numbers ahead of a game against the league’s top scorers. Fortunately, the U’s have been no slouches offensively on their travels having notched 22 goals in 14 matches.

Goals on the cards

Given the efforts of this pair, ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ stands out as a viable option. Between them, Peterborough have scored lots of goals. Peterborough have notched an average of 2.21 at home, the best in the division, while Oxford have scored a more than respectable average of 1.57 on their travels. In addition, as mentioned above, both teams rank highly when it comes to shots on target for, while both have been involved in high-scoring games more often than not. Three or more goals have been scored in 63% of Peterborough’s home games, as well as in 59% of Oxford’s away games.

In the ‘Correct Score’ market it may just pay to side with the hosts. After all, Oxford, who have more than enough quality to make their presence felt at ABAX, had a tough 120 minutes in the FA Cup during the week, which should give the hosts the edge. A 2-1 win for the hosts, who’ve often scored a couple of goals this season, appeals. The visitors have scored exactly once in six of the ten away games that they’ve failed to win.
