Tip Reasoning

  • Plymouth have won their last five home matches without conceding
  • Pressure is on Oxford to maintain top six spot
  • Plymouth won the reverse fixture 3-1 in October

Pilgrims fancied to bounce straight back

Plymouth’s defeat last week at Ipswich was their first in seven matches. The Pilgrims hadn’t conceded in the six games prior to their trip to Portman Road and those six clean sheets all resulted in victories. Steven Schumacher has done an incredible job since the departure of former boss Ryan Lowe to Preston. Plymouth look nailed on for a play-off spot and are fancied to get the better of fellow promotion hopefuls Oxford on Saturday. Plymouth have kept five home clean sheets in a row, they have the third best home record in League One this season and can take heart from the 3-1 victory they recorded at Oxford earlier in the campaign. The hosts look primed for a good showing at Home Park this weekend.

Pressure on Oxford to maintain top six spot

For a long while Plymouth looked the most likely team to fall out of the play-off places, Oxford may well have taken up that mantle despite being in okay form. Oxford are now in 5th just two points ahead of Sunderland in 7th and look more vulnerable than sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday who have found full flight at just the right time in the season. Oxford have a tough run in, Karl Robinson’s side have four of the current top seven to play in their remaining fixtures and will have a hard time getting a positive result on Saturday against League One’s meanest home defence.

Plymouth in the outright market will be the main selection for this one. The Pilgrims will be eager to bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat and a victory against Oxford would all but secure a play-off berth. In the correct score market, I suggest chancing a 2-0 home win.
