The Poland Ekstraklasa starts in mid-July and is completed in May the following year. Teams play a total of 37 games each, totalling 296 matches in the season. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the Ekstraklasa qualifies for the Polish SuperCup.
So, who actually plays in the Poland Ekstraklasa? The league consists of 16 teams and during the course of the season, each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 30 games. At the end of the regular season the top eight teams go head to head in the Championship Round while the bottom eight take part in the Relegation Round.

Cracovia, Gornik Zabrze, Jagiellonia Bialystock, Lech Poznan, Lechia Gdansk, Legia Warsaw, Piast Gliwice, Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala, Pogon Szczecin, Rakow Czestochowa, Slask Wroclaw, Stal Mielec, Warta Poznan, Wisla Krakow, Wisla Plock and Zaglebie Lubin.
Gornik Zabrze, Wisla Krakow and Legia Warsaw are all tied with 14 top-flight titles in Poland, while Ruch Chorzow have 13 and Lech Poznan have 7.
Piast Gliwice are the current Ekstraklasa champions despite only finishing third in the regular season. Gliwice enjoyed a fantastic Championship Round where they clawed back a 7 point deficit to win the league by 4pts ahead of Legia Warsaw.
