Reason For PSG vs Bayern Munich Predictions

  • Bayern Munich have won each of their last 20 competitive matches.
  • Die Roten have won all ten Champions League games this season.
  • PSG have averaged 2.5 goals per game in this season’s competition and have scored in 34 consecutive Champions League fixtures.
  • Bayern Munich have scored exactly three goals in five of their ten Champions League games this season.

Champions League dream closer than ever for PSG

PSG propelled themselves one step closer to their Qatari owners’ dream last week with an assured performance against surprise package RB Leipzig, hammering the young German club 3-0 to send the Parisians to their first ever Champions League Final.

This followed on from a late comeback in their 2-1 win over Atalanta, but on Sunday they face an opponent operating at the very top of their game. Bayern Munich have been utterly dominant in 2020 so far and come into this final in Lisbon as favourites, but PSG are certainly not to be taken lightly.

The mega-rich Ligue 1 club have assembled one of the most expensive squads in world football, boasting a £350m attacking duo in Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Between them, these two superstars have scored 39 goals in 50 Ligue 1 and Champions League appearances, laying on another 20 goals.

Bayern target historic treble

Bayern Munich’s attacking powers are no less menacing, although it’s interesting to note that not a single member of their starting lineup on Wednesday cost more than £30m.

Die Roten’s relatively cheap squad has nevertheless led them to 20 consecutive victories in all competitions and they’re unbeaten since the start of December. All ten of their Champions League games this season have ended in victory, with a monumental tally of 42 goals being scored across these fixtures.

This incredible run of form has already led Bayern to a domestic double, and they’ll now be looking to replicate the squad of 2012/13 as they look for an historic treble.

Les Parisiens face tough defensive test

Of course, PSG aren’t a team to be taken lightly. Neymar, who has scored three goals and provided four assists in six Champions League appearances, has drawn plaudits for his newfound selflessness and striking partner Mbappe is undoubtedly one of the most talented youngsters in the world.

They have helped lead PSG to an eight match unbeaten streak in all competitions, although their 2-1 defeat away to Borussia Dortmund back in February is a concern considering the quality of their opposition on Sunday.

Not only that, but the French side were second best for large portions of the game against Atalanta, and their notorious defensive frailty will come under significant pressure when facing a man who has scored 55 goals for Bayern Munich this season, including 15 in just nine Champions League appearances.

Die Roten to edge battle of the attacks

It’s difficult to look past Bayern Munich for this one. The five time Champions League winners look a class above any other team in Europe right now and are riding the crest of an incredible winning run.

They have scored 48 goals in their 14 games since the restart, including 15 in just three Champions League outings and have won every single match. This, along with their hefty European pedigree, makes a Bayern Munich win our top prediction.

All this being said, Bayern’s defensive frailties should not be overlooked. They were exposed by Lyon a number of times on Wednesday and were lucky to keep a clean sheet. They have conceded in seven of their last ten in all competitions and face a PSG side that have scored in an incredible 34 consecutive Champions League matches.

Les Parisiens have averaged 2.5 goals per game in the Champions League this season and, with Bayern Munich scoring exactly three goals in half of their Champions League fixtures this term, an entertaining 3-2 correct score prediction is another attractive option.

Stage set for Gnabry to shine

Robert Lewandowski quite rightly takes the vast majority of the plaudits when it comes to Bayern Munich’s attacking supremacy, but he’s far from the only threat PSG face on Sunday.

Serge Gnabry opened the scoring with an absolute screamer against Lyon before going on to bag another, taking his tally to nine goals in nine appearances in the Champions League this season.

The former Arsenal man has scored six goals in his last four appearances in this competition, making him the best value option in the anytime goalscorer market.

Bernat in the bad books

Gnabry will go toe-to-toe with PSG left back Juan Bernat in Lisbon on Sunday, and the 25-year-old German’s movement and ability on the ball are bound to cause the Spaniard a major headache.

This contest could get the PSG defender into the referee’s bad books too. He has been booked in two of his last three competitive appearances and was yellow carded five times in 18 Ligue 1 outings last season.

Not only that, but Bayern Munich have seen the opposition left back (or left sided centre back in Lyon’s case) carded in each of their last four competitive games, with Marcal, Jordi Alba, Emerson and Wendell all falling foul of the referee. So, if you’re dipping your toes into the cards market look no further than Juan Bernat.
