Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

PSV have drawn three of their last four Champions League home games, the last two of which have finished 1-1, while that was also the scoreline in Sporting’s last away fixture in the competition against Tottenham. A repeat outcome appears probable on Tuesday.

PSV vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions

  • PSV have only lost one of their last 12 Champions League home games
  • The Dutch giants have drew their last two home matches 1-1 in the Champions League
  • Sporting Lisbon have won eight matches in a row across all competitions

Hard to separate in-form pair

Both PSV and Sporting Lisbon have won seven matches from seven in their domestic leagues this season, but while Tuesday’s hosts lost their Champions League opener at Juventus, the visitors were 2-0 winners at home to Lille.

Despite that defeat in Turin, PSV boast an excellent recent home record in Europe’s premier club competition, losing just one of their last 12 such games, while they have not been defeated inside 90 minutes in any of their last 41 fixtures at the PSV Stadion in all competitions.

Sporting head to the Netherlands having won eight matches on the spin and they have not lost inside 90 minutes in any of their last 21 fixtures all told, a run that dates back to mid-March.

Draw the order of the day

With both sides proving hard to beat for extended periods, the draw would perhaps be the sensible play on Tuesday, especially as PSV have shared the spoils in three of their last four Champions League home games and Sporting have drawn two of their previous four away fixtures in the competition.

Each of PSV’s last two home Champions League games, against Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, have finished 1-1 and nobody would be too surprised to see that scoreline come in again on Tuesday.
