      Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia Predictions

One of the reasons for this is certainly Valencia’s Champions League involvement either side of this tie. They got a tough draw in the shape of last season’s Quarter Finalists Monaco but picked up an impressive 3-1 win in midweek at the Mestalla to take command of the tie.

It is far from dead though and the importance of Champions League group stage participation, something they haven’t experienced in the past 2 seasons, dictates that they will have to keep one eye on the trip to Monaco which comes just 3 days after this game.

Nuno Espirito Santo is likely to make a few changes for the trip to Rayo with Alvaro Negredo and Javi Fuego among those who could come into the side. Any players with niggling injuries are unlikely to be risked and sub-consciously at least that could have an effect on Valencia.

Their top four finish last season was based almost entirely on their home form and they have won only 7 of their last 27 away La Liga games so you can never be fully confident about Valencia on the road, especially when they have such a big game around the corner so there looks to be value in backing Rayo Vallecano to get a draw or better at 5/6.

Paco Jemez has done a wonderful job at Rayo Vallecano but given they are still a small club with limited funds, the number one aim at the start of every season is survival and this will be no different.

They played Atletico Madrid, who at the time were defending champions, on the opening day last season and held them to a 0-0 draw and they are well capable of mixing it with the big boys on their day.

Valencia visited Vallecas as recently as late April and couldn’t secure all 3 points and another draw is likely here. Rayo have got a reputation as an attacking side and although they won’t go crazy in search of 3 points, there should be a few chances in the game at both ends and a repeat of April’s 1-1 draw could well be on the cards at 11/2.
