RB Leipzig vs Manchester City Predictions
- RB Leipzig have scored in their last 16 competitive games.
- Manchester City have only kept three clean sheets in 11 games this season.
- Manchester City have only won two of their last ten Champions League away games, including two failures to win at RB Leipzig.
Cityzens look to bounce back
Manchester City will be looking to bounce back after suffering successive defeats for the first time since January but they could find it tough against an in-form RB Leipzig side at the Red Bull Arena.
Pep Guardiola’s side were stunned by Wolves on Saturday to follow on from their Carabao Cup exit in midweek and, despite being the holders of the Champions League, their record on the road in Europe isn’t as good as many people may expect.
They have won just two of their last ten Champions League away days, including two trips to RB Leipzig that have resulted in a 2-1 defeat and a 1-1 draw.
Free-scoring Leipzig set to trouble visiting defence
The Germans have started the season in fantastic shape, too. They beat Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup and picked up a point against the Bundesliga champions at the weekend, leaving them with seven wins, one draw and one defeat from their nine competitive fixtures.
Leipzig have scored in all nine of these assignments and, looking back to last season, have now found the net in 16 successive matches. They should be able to trouble a Manchester City defence that have kept just three clean sheets in 11 games this season.
Expect goals at both ends in Leipzig
Keeping the Cityzens out at the other end is another matter entirely, though. Their only failure to score this term came from a heavily-rotated trip to St James’ Park and RB Leipzig aren’t the most defensively sound of teams, so both teams to score looks an excellent value bet.
Given City’s struggles away from home in Europe and RB Leipzig’s excellent start to the season, a fourth-successive 1-1 draw away from home in the Champions League could be a solid correct score pick.
Anytime goalscorer punters should consider Lois Openda, who has scored four goals in six competitive appearances since his move from Lens. The 23-year-old scored 21 Ligue 1 goals last term and has had four goal contributions in his last four outings for RB Leipzig, including a goal and assist against Bayern Munich on Saturday.
