Reading vs Rotherham Predictions

  • Reading are top of the Championship after racking up five wins and a draw from their six games thus far.
  • The Royals have kept clean sheets in all but one of their games.
  • Rotherham are without a win in five and sit ten points behind the Royals in 17th.
  • The visitors have scored just five goals in six outings but have been reasonably solid defensively with just six conceded.

Reading Overpriced to Notch Another Three Points

Reading haven’t exactly been pretty so far under new boss Veljko Paunovic, but they’ve been highly effective. The Serbian has steered the Royals to five wins and five clean sheets from six Championship outings and they sit top of the league going into this weekend’s fixture against Rotherham United at The Madejski.

And it’s a fixture that Reading should ultimately win through, despite arguably turning in their most unconvincing display of the season on Tuesday night when narrowly edging out lowly Wycombe 1-0.

The Royals have beaten likely promotion contenders Cardiff City (1-2) and Watford (1-0) en route to their early lead at the summit and the mood amongst the players at the Madejski will be sky high.

The club only managed a 14th placed finish last term and while it’s perhaps too early to classify Paunovic’s side as genuine contenders, they should comfortably better what they achieved in 2019/20 based on what we’ve seen so far.

Yet surprisingly, Reading can be backed at a touch above evens for Saturday’s contest at the time of going to press. That’s superb value on their results alone, but an even more attractive wager when you factor in the standard and form of the opposition.

It’s fair to say that Rotherham have looked extremely limited since returning to the second tier and they head to Berkshire winless in five. The Millers are no pushovers at the back with just six goals conceded in six, but they’ve only managed five goals of their own at the other end.

There should be little to worry about then for this stern Reading back line and the hosts can tough out another three points to remain at the head of affairs. The Royals may have to be patient again based on based on Rotherham’s well organised defence, so a 1-0 correct score also appeals.
