Rennes to Win and Over 1.5 Match Goals
Reasoning
Rennes vs Nantes Predictions
- Rennes are unbeaten in four home games this season and have scored multiple goals each time.
- Nantes have lost six of their last nine Ligue 1 away games and were fortunate to beat Clermont last time on the road
- Rennes have won four of the last five derbies against Nantes, including both games to nil last season
Back the hosts in Breton derby
Rennes should return to winning ways when they host Nantes in Sunday’s ‘Derby de la Bretagne’ at Roazhon Park.
Bruno Genesio’s side were unable to overcome Montpellier in their travels last weekend, despite dominating the game, but it was on shortened preparation due to their European involvement.
But there are no such excuses for this one and the hosts could have star attacker Martin Terrier fit in some capacity after months out through injury. Rennes are not short of goal potential anyway with Amine Gouiri and Ibrahim Salah responsible for four of their nine home goals scored across three league fixtures.
Nantes are not secure in defence
Nantes come into this contest with some renewed confidence after back-to-back wins at Clermont and at home to Lorient. They were a touch fortunate to win on the road, however, and failed to shake off the visitors until stoppage time last week.
This game should feature some goals, despite the fact that previous derbies have tended to be tight. Rennes have held the upper hand in recent years and there is no reason to suspect that will change, despite the hosts’ recent run of draws.
A fully-rested Rennes can win this game with a couple of goals going into the back of the Nantes net. The hosts have scored multiple goals in all four of their matches at Roazhon Park this season while Nantes have shipped at least two in four of their six Ligue 1 contests this term.
