Republic Of Ireland vs Qatar Predictions
- Ireland beat Qatar 4-0 five years ago
- Ireland have won three of their last five
- Ireland unbeaten in last eight at home
Ireland’s strong home form enough to give them edge here
The Republic of Ireland welcome Qatar for an international friendly with both sides arriving from contrasting World Cup qualification campaigns. Ireland narrowly missed out on a place at the tournament after falling short in the latter stages of qualifying, though there were encouraging signs under their current setup with several younger players continuing to emerge. Qatar, meanwhile, successfully secured qualification and will use matches like this as preparation against European opposition ahead of the competition.
These nations faced each other twice during 2021 in friendly meetings, with the first encounter ending in a 1-1 draw before Ireland produced a dominant display in Dublin later that year to record an emphatic 4-0 victory. That result highlighted the gap between the sides on the day, although Qatar have gained further tournament experience since then through regular international competition.
This is very much a prep for Qatar, however there is some incentive for Ireland to give a good performance in front of their home fans. Don’t expect anything exciting, in what should be a pretty dull affair, however Ireland are fancied to come out on top of this. This will likely be a low scoring affair and one goal may do it for the home side.
