• Ukraine have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous five fixtures.
• Both teams have scored in four of their last five matches.
• Ireland are yet to score a home Nations League goal in the competition’s history.

Hosts need to improve

The new Nations League campaign is underway and it got off to a pretty bad start for the Republic of Ireland (ROI) as they were handed a 1-0 by Armenia in their opener. Going by the rankings, that was their easiest game and now they face the side with the highest ranking in the group in the form of Ukraine. The hosts haven’t won any of their last 11 Nations League matches and somewhat surprisingly, they’re also yet to score a single goal in this competition on home soil.

Ukraine suffered heartache on Sunday as they suffered defeat at the hands of Wales in their World Cup qualification playoff final. Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko stated his side gave absolutely everything to try and book their place in the World Cup and so it’ll be interesting to see if they’re motivated enough to get a result here.

Don’t expect an exciting clash

This could be a fairly dull affair considering the hosts are hardly potent in attack and Ukraine could still be recovering psychologically after missing out on this year’s international tournament. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see this one end in a draw as both are fairly resolute defensively. We’re not expecting this one to see many chances and we’ll go for a stalemate.
