Sampdoria vs SPAL Predictions

  • SPAL have lost 20 of their 29 Serie A games so far
  • The visitors have lost 11 of 15 away trips in the league
  • Samp have won seven of their eight clashes with sides in the bottom seven
  • Both teams have scored in Sampdoria’s last eight league games

Vital win for Samp

The hosts have eased their fears of the drop by beating the team in 18th in midweek. A 2-1 victory at Lecce has helped Claudio Ranieri’s men, so they will see this meeting with the 19th placed side as another perfect chance to ease their fears of dropping to Serie B this season.

Ranieri’s men have lost too many games so far and that has left them in danger, but they have the chance to scramble towards safety in the run-in. SPAL are the perfect team to take advantage of, while our predictions point to the hosts taking all three points.

SPAL heading for second-tier

The visitors are bound for relegation, sitting six points from safety with only nine games left to turn things around. The issue for SPAL is that they’ve lost 20 times in 29 league outings, with their recent matches seeing them regularly outplayed. SPAL have shared just one draw in their last 21 away games, losing 14 of them (D6).

That has certainly been the case on the road this term. SPAL have lost 11 away games and scored only 10 goals on the road so far this season – no team has lost more or scored fewer in Serie A this season. Any chance they could have seems to be ruled out, as their star forward is likely to have little impact. Sampdoria are the opponent against which SPAL’s striker Andrea Petagna has played the most Serie A games without scoring a single goal (seven).

Samp to punish strugglers again

Sampdoria have won seven of their eight clashes with sides in the bottom seven. Above that, they’ve won just once in 21 games, which shows their difficulty against quality sides. That doesn’t include SPAL, a side who already had a poor record at this ground. Sampdoria lead by 12 wins to 11 so far against SPAL in Serie A (D12). The H2H in Genova sees the hosts leading by seven wins to four, with six draws.

We are going with a home win this week given how poor SPAL look. Sampdoria are clearly able to step up when they meet poorer sides, which is exactly what the visitors have been over the course of the season. We see good value in the home win, while we’re going for a 3-1 victory in our correct score prediction for this one, with both teams scoring in Samp’s last eight league matches.
