Although Freiburg entered this round sat at the peak of the Bundesliga table for the first time since the 2000/01 season, manager Christian Streich indicated that the aim for the season is still simply to avoid relegation.

Freiburg enjoyed a 2-1 win in their European opener last time out, yet the last time they participated in Europe, they followed up with a bottom-half finish largely due to the fixture pile-up. Consequently, it could be a matter of time before Streich’s men hit the proverbial wall.
