Sheffield United vs Birmingham Predictions
- Birmingham are unbeaten in six games, winning four
- Sheffield United have lost four and won just one of their last seven home matches
- Only two Championship teams lost more home games than the Blades’ ten last term
Big departures leave Blades looking blunt
Much was expected of Birmingham on their Championship return and while a tenth-place finish was a touch disappointing, that gives a young and talented squad a great platform to build upon.
Continuity has been the key word this summer, with manager Chris Davies staying on and no major exits, and that should see them enjoy a strong campaign.
Sheffield United, in contrast, have seen a number of key men depart. Andre Brooks, their 2025-26 player of the season, has left for Norwich, chief creator Gus Hamer has returned to Coventry and there is an experience vacuum following the exits of Ben Mee, Danny Ings and Tom Davies.
Chris Wilder has a rebuilding job on his hands and that leaves the Blades looking vulnerable in their curtain-raiser.
Back Blues to start with a bang
Birmingham were beaten 3-0 on their last visit to Bramall Lane but they lost only seven of their 26 games following that defeat and showed major signs of improvement at the end of the season, beating Wrexham and drawing with Hull during the five-game unbeaten run they ended the campaign with.
That strong form has been carried into the new campaign, with the Blues winning 1-0 at a very solid Swansea in the EFL Cup last weekend, and further away success is on the cards in Sheffield.
