Sheffield United vs Hull City Predictions

  • Sheffield United have won their last three home Championship matches.
  • Hull City have lost three of their last four away league games.
  • Sheffield have won their last three head-to-head league meetings with the Tigers.

Blades back at the sharp end of the playoff hunt

Sheffield United ought to earn a fourth straight league win over Hull City on Tuesday at Bramall Lane. The Blades are in much better form and appear a happy group under Paul Heckingbottom, who has overseen a transformation in mood since replacing Slavisa Jokanovic.

The south Yorkshire side are unbeaten in six games and are now right in the thick of the scrap for playoff places at the business end of the season. Contrastingly, Hull City are all about next season now as they try to find their feet under a new coach and owner.

The Tigers are yet to roar in three games under Shota Arveladze – in fact they are yet to clear their throats – and last Saturday’s inevitable home defeat to table-toppers Fulham ended in a rather meek surrender.

Hull all at sea after McCann’s sacking

The fighting spirit and defensive organisation that marked the three straight wins that closed out Grant McCann’s reign have been long forgotten and there’s a feeling that a few players know they won’t be wearing the black and amber strip next season.

Sheffield United can take full advantage of the uncertainty in the Hull camp by picking up a comfortable win here, although thoughts of a landslide victory usually have to be parked when this Blades team is at work. They are a team of gnarled older pros by and large and know that there’s nothing to be gained in the Championship by chasing extra goals if a 2-0 win will do.

That’s the exact scoreline they have achieved in their previous three home games and it again looks a solid option in correct score betting. United have only once scored more than twice in their last 14 league games while the 3-1 defeat to Derby last week marked the first and only time the Tigers have shipped more than two goals on their travels this term.
