Sheffield United vs Newcastle Predictions
- Sheffield United have scored in each of their last four games.
- Newcastle are coming into the game after a tough European fixture.
- The Magpies have conceded in each of their last 11 away games.
Blades seeking a boost
Luck hasn’t been on Sheffield United’s side so far this season and they face another tough game this weekend as Newcastle visit on Sunday.
The Blades conceded twice deep in added time as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Spurs last time out, after shipping late goals in narrow defeats to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.
The South Yorkshire club have just one point to show from their five games but they will feel they have a chance against Newcastle as they are coming into the game after a gruelling game in Milan.
Eddie Howe’s men managed a 0-0 draw with AC Milan at the san Siro but spent most of the game defending, and as the visitors have a modest six points from their five games so far they make little appeal as the odds-on favourites.
Both teams capable of scoring
The hosts may only have one point on the board but they have scored five goals in their five Premier League fixtures and have only failed to score in one of their last eight home league games stretching back into last season.
The Magpies managed a shut-out in Milan, but put a lot into that game and may be a little jaded for Sunday’s league assignment – and clean sheets have proven to be elusive in the Premier League on their travels with their last away shut-out coming in January, a run stretching 11 games.
Newcastle have only failed to score in one game this season, at Man City, and the Blades haven’t managed a clean sheet so both teams should be able to get on the scoresheet.
Wilson a goal contender
If Newcastle hadn’t played in midweek I’d expect them to edge this game but Sheffield United should come into the game with a bit of a point to prove after their disappointment at Spurs and a 1-1 draw is the correct score prediction.
Paul Heckingbottom’s men held Everton to a 2-2 draw in their last home games and were a little unlucky to lose to Man City, so they may be able to get a point against a Newcastle side who aren’t firing on all cylinders just yet.
Callum Wilson scored in the win over Brentford last week and should come back into the starting side after dropping to the bench in Milan. Wilson has three goals in five games despite starting just one of those and the Newcastle man looks a good candidate for an anytime goal.
