Reason For Sheffield United vs Sunderland Predictions

Sheffield United, arriving in the Premier League following 2 promotions in 3 years and with a tiny budget, were considered hot favourites for relegation this season. However, they have answered their critics in style so far, and Chris Wilder will be hoping to prolong their surprising form for as long as possible.

The Blades picked up a fantastic 2-0 win away to Everton at the weekend, pushing them up to 10th in the Premier League table, and Wilder’s team selection in their last Carabao Cup fixture shows that he’s taking this competition seriously as well.

He fielded a strong starting lineup that included the likes of Billy Sharp, Oli Mcburnie and Oliver Norwood in that 2-1 victory, and while Sharp is still suspended for this clash, we can be relatively confident that it’ll be another strong showing from Sheffield United.

Sunderland aren’t exactly doing badly themselves, though. In fact, The Black Cats have only lost 1 game this season and find themselves just 5 points off the top of League 1. That being said, they needed a last gasp equaliser against bottom of the table Bolton on Saturday, and injuries sustained in that game mean that both Aiden McGeady and Jordan Willis are major doubts.

That’s 2 very important players potentially missing for Sunderland, and while they are in good form, it’s important to remember that they are still a side plying their trade in the 3rd tier.

Admittedly, they did beat Burnley in the last round of this competition, but it was a heavily rotated Clarets squad that saw both Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood rested from the starting lineup.

Sunderland have also lost 6 of their last 7 Carabao Cup matches against top flight opposition, and they’re facing a Sheffield United side high on confidence at the moment. Backing a home win looks great value for money, and with The Blades conceding in all but 2 of their competitive games this season and Sunderland scoring in all but 1 of theirs, we fancy a 2-1 correct score prediction on Wednesday.
