Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Goals could be scarce when Sheffield Wednesday meet Stoke. Eight of the last nine league meetings have gone under 2.5 goals, including the last four at Hillsborough. Stoke have seen four of their last five Championship away games finish under the line, and Wednesday are adjusting under new boss Henrik Pedersen after a tough summer

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

A 1-1 draw looks the best value in the correct-score market. Both sides have scored in Wednesday’s last four matches, but low-scoring encounters are common between these teams. Stoke have been involved in under 2.5 goals in six of their last eight league games, and tight margins could define this weekend’s contest.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Stoke City Predictions

Tight Clash Expected at Hillsborough

Goals could be at a premium when troubled Sheffield Wednesday host Stoke at Hillsborough on Saturday, and under 2.5 goals looks the best bet.

Eight of the last nine Championship matches between this pair have stayed under 2.5 goals, including each of their last four meetings at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship last season, seven points ahead of Stoke in 18th. Wednesday won 15 games, drew 13 and lost 18, while Stoke achieved 51 points from 12 wins, 15 draws and 19 defeats.

However, Wednesday’s summer has been blighted by financial problems which led to Danny Rohl’s departure at the end of last month. New manager Henrik Pedersen – Rohl’s former assistant – oversaw a 2-1 loss at Leicester in their season opener.

Leicester turned the game around after Nathaniel Chalobah’s 26th-minute goal and, at 1/7 to win, the result was no surprise, so the Owls can take pride in a battling performance.

In contrast, Stoke won their last outing, beating Derby 3-1 last weekend.

There have, however, been under 2.5 goals in four of Stoke’s last five Championship road games.

The 1-1 draw looks a decent correct-score bet. There have been under 2.5 goals in six of Stoke’s last eight Championship games and both sides have found the net in Sheffield Wednesday’s last four matches.
