Highflyers Derry after a response

Derry City blew the opportunity to narrow the gap between them and pacesetters Shamrock Rovers on Monday, losing 1-0 against the league leaders at Tallaght Stadium, but they will be hoping they can bounce back on the road against Shelbourne.

In second spot, Derry now trail Shamrock Rovers by seven points in the Ireland Premier Division but are still in contention for a Europa Conference League qualifying berth.

And although they slipped to defeat last time out as a result of Rory Gaffney’s first-half strike, Derry were lively in the match and looked on top in the opening 15 minutes with winger Brandon Kavanagh causing their opponents plenty of problems.

They also only allowed Shamrock two shots on target and they can win away to mid-table Shelbourne.

The hosts managed to hold Derry to a draw earlier this month but were thoroughly outplayed, conceding 22 shots in the match, and that result formed part of what has become a run of one win in six games.

In terms of a correct score prediction, a 2-0 win for Derry looks the way to go with Shelbourne having drawn a blank against St Patrick’s Athletic last time out.
