Sparta’s home form is key to success

Sparta Rotterdam will be pleased to find themselves sixth in the Eredivisie table and should build on a 4-1 win at Excelsior when they entertain Vitesse.

Sparta had slipped to heavy defeats to Ajax and Utrecht, so last week’s victory was an ideal recovery and they should take a great deal of confidence from the fact the Utrecht reverse was the first time they had lost in ten league matches on their own patch.

Vitesse are poor travellers

There have been some encouraging signs on the road for Vitesse with draws at Ajax and AZ Alkmaar and a 1-0 loss at PSV Eindhoven, but a 3-1 success at Heerenveen is the only away win the Arnhem outfit have mustered in their last seven away matches.

They have kept just one clean sheet in their last ten league games on the road and in five of those they have conceded at least two goals, something that Sparta have achieved on seven occasions this season, so this looks set to be a difficult trip.
