Tip Reasoning

  • Lazio have won four of their last six away league games by more than a single goal.
  • Maurizio Sarri’s men hammered Spezia 6-1 in an early-season clash back in August.
  • Spezia have only won two of their last 11 games, with both victories coming against relegation-battlers in Cagliari and Venezia.
  • Lazio’s record of 66 Serie A goals this term is bettered only by Inter (71).

Lazio aim for repeat of early-season rout

Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio are looking to secure a spot in next season’s Europa League after picking up 13 points from their last seven Serie A matches, keeping them in direct competition with rivals Roma and an inconsistent Fiorentina side. Having hammered Spezia 6-1 at the outset of Sarri’s time at the club, the capital side will be confident of maintaining their decent form against the same opponents on Saturday.

Outside of Rome, Lazio have gone unbeaten in five away league games, winning four of those by more than a one-goal margin and scoring a minimum of three goals in each of those wins (Lazio did lose 3-0 in an ‘away’ derby to Roma at their shared Stadio Olimpico home last month). Lazio have also not lost to a team currently outside the top half since losing at Bologna on October 3rd.

Having surely secured their Serie A survival with an excellent run of form at the turn of the year, Thiago Motta’s Spezia have begun to struggle again in recent weeks, winning just two of their last 11 games – against dreadfully out-of-form sides in Cagliari and Venezia. Meanwhile, only four teams have conceded more than the 59 league goals shipped by Motta’s men this term.

Visitors look likely to win handsomely

Having netted 66 league goals this season, a record only bettered by title favourites Inter amongst Serie A outfits, Lazio tend to rack up the goals when they do win.

Considering the visitors’ good form and tendency to put smaller opponents to the sword, we’re backing Sarri’s men to beat a -1 handicap on Saturday evening, and a 3-0 win, which would be their fourth such triumph in seven away games, could be a decent correct score prediction.
