Sporting Lisbon vs FC Porto Predictions

  • Sporting have not lost any of their last five head-to-head meetings with Porto.
  • Porto have failed to win three of their last five games.
  • The cup has become a major focus for Sporting now and isn’t such a priority for Porto.

Sporting can show their stubborn side

Sporting can use home advantage and their tactical nous to get the better of Porto in the Taca de Portugal on Wednesday night in another close game between these rivals. Ruben Amorim’s side are six points behind the Primeira Liga leaders in the title race after Porto came from 2-0 down to claim a home draw in their last encounter at the Dragao.

There’s a strong likelihood that the events of that match, which saw four players sent off and scuffles after the final whistle, will be carried over to this. Whichever set of players keep their heads for longest will probably prevail and home advantage for the Lisbon side could count for more than normal in these circumstances.

Os Leoes, who won the Taca da Liga in January, have not lost any of their last five head-to-head meetings with the Dragons anyway and Amorim always seems to have an answer for the problems Porto pose.

Porto could fall flat in treble task

Sergio Conceicao’s side appear to be just hitting a flat spot in their incredible season in which they remain on course for the three trophies. Porto failed to beat a Gil Vicente side reduced to ten men from the third minute last weekend and that makes it three draws from their last five games.

Sporting also failed to win at Maritimo last weekend without suspended Pablo Sarabia or rested Pedro Goncalves, but both will return for this fixture which has taken on a much greater priority for the hosts. Porto, who can also welcome back midfielders Matheus Uribe and Marko Grujic from bans, are spreading themselves a bit thin now and may have lost a little bit of their former edge since the last fiery clash with Sporting.

Taking the hosts to win in the draw no bet market seems a good way to attack this game as we believe Amorim’s team will fight tooth and nail to avoid losing. A 2-1 scoreline could turn profit too as both teams have scored in four of the last five editions of this fixture.
