St Pauli vs Wolfsburg Predictions

Play-off the goal for St Pauli and Wolfsburg

The bottom three has been decided in the Bundesliga but the order is yet to be determined with three teams battling to claim the play-off place and avoid automatic relegation. Wolfsburg currently hold that coveted 16th spot but they are level on points with rock bottom St Pauli ahead of their do-or-die meeting in Hamburg on Saturday.

Heidenheim are sandwiched between these two sides and they face Mainz this weekend so both of these teams will be keeping tabs on that game as well, and all three sides have similar goal differences as well with Wolfsburg on -26 and the bottom two on -29 – Heidenheim are above St Pauli as they have scored more goals.

It is all set up for a fascinating finish and at a big price I quite fancy St Pauli to give themselves a chance of avoiding the bottom two with three points. This is effectively a cup final for these two teams but the Kiezkicker have the key advantage of playing at home, where results haven’t perhaps matched performances lately.

St Pauli dominated Koln at their Millerntor-Stadion a couple of weeks ago but had to settle for a point, while last week they kept things fairly tight in a 2-1 defeat at a rampant RB Leipzig side.

The hosts are on a nine-game winless run but they may be able to get a victory here when it matters most. Alexander Blessin’s side have only lost three of their last 10 games at this venue and are in must-win territory on Saturday, against a side who travel poorly.

Wolfsburg have five defeats and just one win across their last nine away from home and have lost eight of their 16 away games in the Bundesliga.

A lack of goals has been an issue for the visitors as they have scored just once across their last three games. Fine margins could be key here and St Pauli have got the best defence of the bottom three, a clean sheet could give them a platform for victory and they can grind out a 1-0 win – which may still not be enough to snare 16th place.
