Sydney FC vs Newcastle Jets Predictions
Sydney FC have struggled a bit recently after a good start to the season. They finished last term in 2nd place in the Hyundai A-League table and were then beaten in the Championship playoffs by Melbourne Victory.
They looked like they were fired up to win the title when they won three of their first four this season, but they have dropped off the boil a bit now.
They come into this match having only won two of their last nine Hyundai A-League matches, with their two defeats bringing to light their inability to finish their opponents off.
This puts last season’s runners up in 4th position in the A-League, six points adrift of the league leaders and one point above the out of form Champions Melbourne Victory in 5th.
Newcastle Jets also enjoyed a good start to the season, but their decline has taken a much more disastrous turn than Sydney FC’s.
They picked up nine points from a possible 12 in their first four league games, but since then they haven’t tasted victory.
The Jets have lost five of their last nine, scoring a measly three goals in the process and conceding 12 at the other end. They come into this match having not scored since the end of November, with all of the last five games ending in misery for the Newcastle Jets forwards.
This leaves the visitors in 8th position in the table, although their 13 point return so far is already better than the 12 they managed in the entirety of last season.
It doesn’t look any more promising for Newcastle Jets when they examine the history between them and Sydney FC. They have lost eight of their last nine meetings with Sydney FC and haven’t won any of the last ten head to heads.
Sydney FC have been struggling for victories recently, but I think the least that they’ll do is keep the visitors from scoring. Newcastle Jets are in terrible goalscoring form, so I think odds of 4/5 for Both Teams to Score: NO are excellent value. I am going to back a Sydney FC win though, and a 2-0 correct score prediction at 11/2 looks good.
