Manchester City to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals
Reasoning
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Predictions
- Tottenham have won one of their last ten home league games
- Spurs have failed to score in just two of their 11 Premier League matches on their own patch
- City have scored at least twice in 12 of their last 17 outings
City can put pressure on the Gunners
Manchester City broke a run of four Premier League matches without a win when they claimed a 2-0 success over bottom-of-the-table Wolves last week, but they are perhaps fortunate to still be just four points behind leaders Arsenal going into this weekend.
The Gunners have failed to win their last three and City will view the Londoners’ four-point lead as far from insurmountable, something which should ensure Pep Guardiola’s side go on the front foot at Tottenham.
It is a venue where the Citizens have few fond memories under the Spanish supremo as they have lost on five of their last seven visits, but Tottenham’s home league record has been so poor that the visitors will be confident of gaining their sixth league away success of the campaign.
Home record is a massive concern for Spurs
Tottenham surprised many by finishing fourth in the league phase of the Champions League following Wednesday’s 2-0 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, but their record in front of their own fans in the league has been little short of woeful.
They have gained a full return in just one match on their own patch since a 3-0 success over Burnley on opening weekend and that has led to plenty of discontent directed towards manager Thomas Frank.
Spurs also face Manchester United, Newcastle and Arsenal before the end of the month and will be anxious not to slip any closer to the relegation zone.
While they have generally struggled at home in the league, they have at least scored in all but two of their games in their own backyard, so the way to approach this one from a betting perspective is to go for a City win in a match that features more than two goals, with a 2-1 away success recommended to correct-score punters.
Cherki could find his scoring touch
City hotshot Erling Haaland will have been delighted to end a run of five games without a goal when he netted in Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray, but the Norwegian’s price to net is typically short, so the value in the anytime-goalscorer market lies elsewhere.
Rayan Cherki is of interest in this regard after he was also on target in midweek.
The French attacker has found the net just twice in the league this season, but his goal against the Istanbul outfit was his third in Europa this term and he also scored in the 2-0 EFL Cup semi-final victory Newcastle three weeks ago, so he could break through the Spurs defence.
