Tip Reasoning

  • Tranmere Rovers have won their last three League Two matches.
  • Leyton Orient have only avoided away defeat to one club currently above them in the League Two table.
  • The form of these clubs has gone in opposite directions since Leyton Orient’s 4-0 FA Cup win two weeks ago.

Rovers have reacted well to cup collapse

Tranmere Rovers will be out to avenge their FA Cup second round mauling at the hands of Leyton Orient when they host the Londoners a fortnight on from that contest.

Micky Mellon’s men were thumped 4-0 by the O’s, but have since rolled their sleeves up to take maximum points from 1-0 away wins at Oldham and Exeter. Tranmere’s strength this season has been their defence and those back-to-back clean sheets suggest all is right again after the aberration in east London.

Oldham may be in the relegation zone, but Rovers’ victory at Boundary Park was made to look better by the Latics’ subsequent 5-5 away draw at leaders Forest Green Rovers. And any win at Exeter is like gold dust this season, so we conclude Tranmere are in good form.

O’s skipper out for Prenton Park rematch

Kenny Jackett’s team followed up their cup win with another at home to Swindon – who have one of the best away records in the Football League – but then fell to a frustrating defeat against struggling Crawley. Skipper Darren Pratley was given his marching orders in stoppage time to compound the O’s misery and he will miss the trip to the Wirral through suspension.

Orient’s away form this season has not been stellar with far too many draws and as many defeats as wins on the road, but they have only achieved one ‘positive’ result at a team currently placed above them in the table – like Tranmere right now.

Likewise Tranmere have not beaten a team above themselves in the table at home, but their 1-0 win at St James Park last week is arguably the best of the season, so we are taking the generous odds about a home win here. A third 1-0 success on the trot is predicted because the O’s also fell by that scoreline to Northampton on their last away day.
