Udinese to Win

Reason for tip

Udinese have won their last five matches, winning the expected goals (xG) battle in each and seeing off the likes of Inter Milan and Roma. The hosts, meanwhile, have one win all season – against winless Sampdoria – and are yet to keep a clean sheet.

Udinese 2-1

Reason for tip

Both teams have seen goals at both ends in five of their last eight matches. While only Cremonese and Monza have conceded more Serie A goals than Verona this season, no team had outscored Udinese prior to this weekend’s round of games.

Verona vs Udinese Predictions

  • Udinese have won five consecutive matches, beating the likes of Fiorentina, Inter Milan and Roma on that run.
  • Verona have lost back-to-back games, and have won just once in Serie A all season.
  • Only Monza and Cremonese (14 apiece) have conceded more Serie A goals than Verona’s 13 this campaign.

Zebrette on a roll

Udinese stunned Inter Milan to claim a surprise victory at the Dacia Arena prior to the international break, moving into Serie A’s top four with a fifth consecutive win. Andrea Sottil’s men have arguably been the story of this young Serie A season, and a trip to struggling Verona could give them the chance to maintain their form.

Indeed, Udinese have seen off the likes of Fiorentina, Inter and Roma in their terrific run of form, and perhaps even more impressively, have won the expected goals (xG) battle in each of those five contests. Udinese’s tally of 15 Serie A goals was the joint-highest in the division going into matchday eight, and only five sides – all of whom made Europe last season, have created more xG than Sottil’s men.

Those stats do not bode well for Verona, whose tally of 13 goals conceded this season is worse than all but struggling duo Monza and Cremonese. As well as losing back-to-back games, Gabrielle Cioffi’s team have only beaten winless Sampdoria this term, and are yet to keep a single clean sheet. Cioffi may have felt hard-done-by when he was overlooked for the Udinese job in the summer after impressing as caretaker, but he looks unlikely to exact revenge.

Udinese set to continue fine form

Given Verona’s defensive woes, backing Udinese to extend their fantastic run appears the most prudent play on Monday – particularly given the decent value available around the visitors.

Meanwhile, both teams have scored in five of Udinese’s last eight games, and in the same number of matches containing Verona this term, making a 2-1 away win a good correct score prediction.
