Tip Reasoning

  • Watford have lost each of their last nine home league games
  • Brentford have won four of their last five games

Watford’s home troubles

With a six-point gap to safety, things aren’t looking good for Watford right now. A return to the Championship is looming, which isn’t surprising given their home record this season.

The Hornets have suffered 12 home Premier League defeats this season, including defeats in each of their previous nine. Every other top-flight team to lose 12 or more in a single season has gone on to be relegated in the 20 previous seasons in which that’s occurred.

Since Roy Hodgson’s first home Premier League match in charge of Watford, the Hornets are the only Premier League side without a single home point. That’s pushed them closer to the drop, while it marks out an in-form Brentford side as arguably the best value side of the weekend.

Bees on the up

Brentford have won four of their last five Premier League games, moving within a point of the top 10. The Bees are looking to win three in a row in the top-flight for the first time since September 1946 and they’ve got a very real chance of doing just that.

The visitors have beaten West Ham and Chelsea in their last two, with Christian Eriksen’s arrival in the side proving to be a huge difference-maker for them. He’s played 90 minutes in four of their last five games and the Bees have won them all, so back him to have a big impact at Vicarage Road.

Toney to fire Brentford to victory

Given the form of the two sides, it’s easy to see why we’re siding with Brentford in this clash. However, the Bees have conceded in each of their last 16 away games, so expect Watford to score in a defeat. Brentford to win 3-1 is my correct score prediction, especially given that they have one of the league’s most in-form players.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney has been involved in 10 goals in his last eight Premier League appearances (8 goals, 2 assists). Only Spurs duo Harry Kane (15) and Son Heung-Min (13) involved in more goals in 2022 than the Bees’ frontman. Given how Watford’s defence is shaping up, Toney looks a good bet to score.

Watford predicted lineup: Foster; Femenia, Kabasele, Samir, Kamara; Sissoko, Louza, Kucka; Sarr, Pedro, Dennis

Brentford predicted lineup: Raya; Ajer, Zanka, Pinnock, Henry; Janelt, Norgaard, Eriksen; Mbeumo, Toney, Wissa

  • Five of Brentford’s last seven Premier League away games have seen both teams score
  • There have been over 2.5 goals in seven of Brentford’s last nine Premier League games on the road
