Tip Reasoning

  • Watford are yet to keep a clean sheet in 19 attempts in the Premier League.
  • Both teams have scored in eight of Watford’s last nine games.
  • Norwich have scored in two of their last three games.
  • Watford have won each of their last five games against Norwich.

Relegation six-pointer at Vicarage Road

Watford and Norwich meet in a crucial fixture in terms of the battle against the drop in the Premier League on Friday and both sides go into this game on the back of positive results.

The Canaries claimed a desperately needed three points at the weekend with a 2-1 win over Everton and they could climb out of the bottom three for the first time this season if they can back that up with a win at Watford. Norwich have spent 15 of the 21 rounds of fixtures at the foot of the table, and their win over Everton ended a six-game losing streak in the league.

Watford grabbed a late equaliser to claim a point at fellow strugglers Newcastle in their last outing as they ended their own seven-game losing run in all competitions, and this Friday night clash is a huge fixture for the two clubs involved. Just three points separate Watford in 17th from rock bottom Burnley, and the fight against the drop looks like a battle between those four teams as Everton sit in 16th and are five points ahead of the Hornets.

Both sides have a few selection issues as Watford have lost three players to AFCON and four others, including forward Ismaila Sarr, are absent due to injury. Norwich have a couple of injury issues and midfielder Billy Gilmour will miss a fourth game in a row with an ankle issue.

Clean sheets an issue for both sides

Norwich have managed a paltry 10 goals in 21 Premier League games but that win over Everton should have provided them with a boost and both teams to score stands out for the main bet in this match-up. The Canaries had failed to score in six consecutive league games prior to that win over the Goodison Park club, but they are facing a Watford side who are yet to keep a clean sheet in 19 attempts in the Premier League so they should be able to grab a goal at Vicarage Road.

Watford have been a good team for both teams to score backers of late and there have been goals at both ends in eight of the Hornets’ last nine games, while their only clean sheet of the season came in an EFL Cup tie with Crystal Palace back in August.

Watford a bogey team for Norwich

Watford won 3-1 at Carrow Road earlier in the season and did the double over Norwich as the two sides won promotion from the Championship in the previous campaign. The Hornets have won each of their last five games against the Canaries and with home advantage they can continue their dominance by making it six in a row on Friday.

Both teams are in woeful form, but Norwich have lost seven of their 10 trips in the league and have conceded 25 goals in those games, while Watford’s recent record against the visitors suggests they can get the job done.

The Hornets have only won four games this season but when they do claim a victory they tend to do it in style – having beaten Manchester United 4-1 and Everton 5-2 this term – so a 3-1 win for the hosts has a chance in the correct score market.

Finally, Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis stands out as a potential candidate for a goal at anytime. The Nigerian scored in the reverse fixture and has five goals in his last eight appearances. Dennis has gone two games without a goal but he managed two shots in the draw with Newcastle last time out so is still seeing chances come his way, and he may well be able to add to his account against Norwich.
