Czech Republic vs Ukraine Predictions

This match comes from League B, the second tier of the UEFA Nations League. These two sides are joined by Slovakia in Group 1 with the top side due to win promotion to League A at the end of this cycle. All the games in this group should be relatively competitive with not a great deal to choose between three teams who all failed to reach the 2018 World Cup.

Czech Republic were in the same qualifying group as Germany and Northern Ireland for that competition but failed to make any sort of impression. They’ve played 6 matches since the end of that qualifying procedure, winning 4 and losing 2 but this will give us a better idea of where they are at moving forward.

Ukraine are actually unbeaten since their 2018 World Cup hopes died a death with a 2-0 home defeat to eventual Finalists Croatia. They’ve not had the toughest of schedules in truth but the fact they’ve beaten fellow group opponents Slovakia ought to be a positive sign for them.

Overall this is a tough game to call. Czech Republic’s competitive home record isn’t bad overall but frustrating early draws on home soil against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan cost them any chance of really getting into the reckoning for World Cup qualification. Their squad has a relatively youthful feel with lots of players heading into their prime years but it lacks that slice of star quality that could transform them from an average team into a pretty good one.

Ukraine have the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka in midfield who do bring a little bit of extra class to the table but they are not really a side that specialises in away wins against anyone other than the real minnows. Their 3 away games in World Cup qualifying against their main rivals for a ticket to the Finals yielded just 1 point. They are still managed by Andriy Shevchenko but he is there more on reputation you sense than what he is actually achieved as a coach and they have never really replaced him on the pitch with just two strikers in this squad, one of whom is uncapped.

Ukraine are perhaps marginally the better side overall but with this game taking place on Czech soil, that may not be noticeable and going for a Draw could be the best move in the Full-Time Result market.
