Group I looks arguably the most competitive in the 2026 World Cup, and it kicks off with 2018 champions France facing African powerhouses Senegal at the MetLife Stadium.
Les Bleus have made it to each of the last two World Cup finals and are a strong betting shout to do so again, but Senegal will be tough opposition in their opener.
Alongside our in-depth match preview, I have put together this 15/1 Bet Builder for the tie, which can be backed with Paddy Power below, where new customers can claim £50 in free Bet Builder bets to use at the World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe to score anytime
Kylian Mbappe is favourite to win a second successive Golden Boot award and is only a goal shy of matching France’s all-time goalscoring record, and he can get the ball rolling against Senegal.
He scored 25 La Liga goals in 2025/26 and has scored in each of his last four competitive international appearances, netting five times in total.
Michael Olise to score or assist
Michael Olise scored a hat-trick for France against Northern Ireland last time out and heads to the World Cup off the back of an incredible season with Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old registered 22 goals and 26 assists across 52 appearances for the Bundesliga champions and he will be expected to contribute against Senegal.
Papa Gueye 1+ shots on target
Papa Gueye had 20 shots in six Africa Cup of Nations games for Senegal earlier this year and he hit the target with 10 of those.
He came off the bench to have two shots against the United States earlier this month and had at least one attempt on target in six of his final 12 appearances for Villarreal in 2025/26.
Adrien Rabiot to be fouled 2+ times
Adrien Rabiot was fouled three times in France’s World Cup warm-up against Ivory Coast earlier this month and will be pitted against a combative Senegal midfield.
He was fouled 20 times in his last eight games for AC Milan in the 2025/26 season and was fouled at least twice in seven of these, so expect him to be heavily involved.
