Argentina recorded a commanding victory against Algeria in their opening game, and we’ve backed them to make it two wins from two in Dallas on Monday.

However, Austria should prove to be a bigger threat to the defending champions, and that factors into our 19/1 bet builder for the opening match of Day 12 at the World Cup.

Argentina vs Austria Bet Builder

Both teams to score

Argentina have won four straight games to nil, but those victories have come against Algeria, Iceland, Honduras, and Zambia.

Opponents Austria beat Jordan 3-1 in their opening game, and they’ve scored in 11 of their last 12 internationals. The only competitive clean sheets they’ve kept since the start of 2024 have come against Cyprus and San Marino, but Austria proved their attacking threat at Euro 2024, putting three goals past Poland and the Netherlands.

Lionel Messi to score anytime

Messi’s hat-trick in the opening game took him level with Miroslav Klose as the World Cup’s record scorer. He can take that record for himself with another goal against Austria, and he has work to do to hold off former teammate Kylian Mbappe, who is on 14.

Messi has scored 120 goals for his country and has netted nine times in his last seven for Inter Miami and Argentina, so back him to score in this clash.

Marcel Sabitzer 1+ shots on target (including woodwork)

Sabitzer had a quiet game against Jordan, but he recorded a shot on target in seven of eight games in qualifying. The midfielder entered the tournament having hit the target in 13 of his previous 16 competitive internationals.

He’s key to Ralf Rangnick’s approach with Austria, and he’s scored in three of Austria’s four games in 2026.

Cristian Romero to be carded

For all his good qualities, Romero has deservedly earned his reputation as a card magnet. He led Argentina with four bookings in qualifying, and the Spurs defender finished the club season with 11 bookings and two reds.

This Austrian side will trouble Argentina’s defence with their press, especially in one of their few games in an indoor, air-conditioned arena. That could bait Romero into more fouls, having committed two in Argentina’s opening game.
