Hotshots Accumulator: 892/1 Midweek goalscorer sixfold

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

This week sees both the Copa America and Euro 2024 whittled down to eight teams apiece, which gives us some huge games in the coming days. On top of that, there’s also late-night action from MLS, which is carrying on despite international call-ups.

Between those three competitions, there are plenty of games to scout for anytime goalscorer selections. As a result, we’ve pieced together a sixfold goalscorer acca which comes to a huge 892/1!

Tuesday – Romania vs Netherlands

While this hasn’t been a stellar summer for the Netherlands, Cody Gakpo is enjoying another fine tournament run. After scoring in his first three games at the last World Cup, he has struck in two of the Netherlands’ first three matches at the Euros.

Gakpo has had a shot on target in each of his three games in Germany and he faces a Belgium side which really struggled to restrict chances for Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne. Drifting in from the left flank makes Gakpo incredibly dangerous, so back him to notch against Romania.

Tip: Cody Gakpo to score

Tuesday – Austria vs Turkey

Austria are expected to cause plenty of problems for a Turkish side that they beat 6-1 back in March. One of the tweaks Ralf Rangnick has made since then is to push Marcel Sabitzer forward, getting the midfielder in advanced positions.

Sabitzer has had eight efforts on goal in his last two games, scoring against the Dutch last time out. With Turkey set to miss key players through suspension, back Sabitzer to pop up with another goal.

Tip: Marcel Sabitzer to score

Wednesday – Brazil vs Colombia

Real Madrid’s Rodryo has been starting as Brazil’s striker at the Copa America, getting plenty of chances in the process. The winger has eight shots through his first two games in the US, while no player in their squad has more efforts on target.

Colombia are on a great run, but they’ve conceded six goals across their last seven games and they’ve already secured a quarter-final place. Brazil still need to win, so back Rodrygo to get off the mark at the tournament with a goal.

Tip: Rodrygo to score

Wednesday – Costa Rica vs Paraguay

While Paraguay are already eliminated from the Copa America, they’re aiming to restore some pride with a victory over Costa Rica in their final game. They did create chances in their 4-1 loss to Brazil last time out, getting seven shots on target in that contest.

Costa Rica have yet to hit a shot on target and they’ve faced 35 shots at the other end. Paraguay look best placed going forward in this clash and Brighton’s Julio Enciso is best placed to step up for them.

Enciso has already scored at this tournament and he has three efforts on target through two games. Back him for another strike against a poor Costa Rica defence.

Tip: Julio Enciso to score

Thursday – D.C. United vs Cincinnati

Christian Benteke is having a fantastic season in MLS, scoring 14 goals in 18 appearances for D.C. United. The forward scored against the Houston Dynamo before being sent off in his last outing, but he returns ahead of a clash with Cincinnati in the early hours of Thursday.

Cincinnati have conceded twice or more in five of their last six matches and with Benteke the second-highest scorer in MLS this term, back him to trouble the second-placed side in the Eastern Conference.

Tip: Christian Benteke to score

Friday – LA Galaxy vs Los Angeles FC

The top two sides in the Western Conference meet in the early hours of Friday, with both sides in fine form. Last season’s MLS top scorer in enjoying another stellar campaign for LAFC, with Denis Bouanga netting 13 times this season.

Bouanaga has scored seven goals across his last eight MLS appearances. While LA Galaxy are enjoying a strong start, LAFC are the stronger of the two and Bouanga should deliver in this key clash.

Tip: Denis Bouanga to score
