The 2025-26 Scottish Premiership season was its most dramatic in recent history, with Hearts coming closer than any side has done since 1985 to breaking the Old Firm’s stranglehold on the title.
The Jam Tarts were top of the league for 250 days, from the start of October until the final day of the season when a 3-1 defeat to Celtic saw the Hoops lift the Scottish title for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons.

Celtic to win at 4/5
Rangers were a distant third but have acted swiftly over the summer, with Hearts manager Derek McInnes and star striker Lawrence Shankland swapping the maroon of Edinburgh for the blue of Glasgow.
The Gers have also signed Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, former Everton defender Ben Godfrey and Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.
Ross McCrorie returns for a second spell at the club to replace former captain James Tavernier at right-back in what will be a new-look Rangers side this season.
Hearts too have made plenty of changes, aided by Brighton owner Tony Bloom’s Jamestown Analytics. Belgian manager Wouter Vrancken has replaced McInnes after leading Saint-Truiden to a third-place finish in his homeland and looks a more natural fit for the ownership’s preferred style of play than the departing boss.
Cammy Devlin, Islam Chesnokov, Beni Baningime and Michael Steinwender have followed Shankland out of the door while Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Sabri Guendouz, Calvin Miller and Amadou Ba-Sy have all arrived. Their signings have come from as far afield as the Macedonian top flight and the third tier of French football, demonstrating their commitment to Jamestown’s unique algorithm-based transfer strategy.
While their two main rivals have undergone drastic changes, it has been more of the same at Celtic. The Hoops’ hierarchy has been criticised heavily for their lack of initiative and progress in recent years and bringing veteran manager Martin O’Neill back for another season hardly screams forward-thinking.
Realistically, Hearts are the only side who look capable of disrupting the big two once again this term but the departures of Shankland and Devlin are a blow and their project may take a few more years to come to fruition and win the title.
Rangers should go closer but it’s hard to see them as value at 11/8 given that they finished ten points adrift of the worst Celtic team in recent memory last time out.
The Hoops have won 14 of the last 15 titles for a reason and even though there is serious discord between the hierarchy and the fanbase, the board will surely spend later in the summer to ensure that they don’t repeat the mistakes of last term.
Celtic’s financial might should see them wrap up another title to prevent McInnes and Shankland gaining the ultimate revenge.
