Chicago Cubs vs New York Mets Predictions

Well, the Chicago Cubs are on the brink, and the New York Mets are on the cusp. Whatever the storyline in this series, there was always going to be something almost strange about watching either of the Cubs or Mets return to the postseason.

However, perhaps this storyline is especially surprising because the Mets went 0-7 against the Cubs during the regular season, and because the Mets had shown signs of weakness late during the regular season, while the Cubs appeared to be going from strength-to-strength.

Jason Hammel gets the start. He pitched three innings in the series against St Louis, now he’s playing with the series on the line. 33-year old Hammel is a solid, experienced pitcher, who enjoyed a solid season. It’s difficult to move past the word “solid” though and that’s not a great sign.

The Mets’ pitching has generally received terrific run support from Danny Murphy and the variety of powerful swings through this line-up. New York have differentiate themselves based on offense first and foremost. They’ll be looking for nothing more than a solid outing from Steven Matz, who threw five innings and gave up only six hits in his start against the Dodgers, but got out-duelled by Clayton Kershaw.

      Three Reasons for Betting Tips

      1. Cubs won’t get swept

There’s no way that Chicago will allow themselves to get swept in this series, we just can’t believe that that’s what is going to happen.

      2. Pitching match-up

Hammel vs Matz isn’t an absolute classic pitching match-up and we’re sure that the Game Total for the game will be under threat and that neither pitcher will go deep into the game. However, we think the veteran Hammel just has the slight edge, if there’s an edge to be had.

      3. Odds are good

We’re getting the Cubs at 5/6 at Wrigley Field with the pitching advantage in terms of experience and record. It’s not so surprising considering how the series has gone, but actually it represents a decent opportunity.
