Tip Reasoning

  • Hibs have won 12 of their last 23 Premiership away games since the start of last season, only Rangers have won more.
  • Both teams have scored in six of the last eight Premiership games involving Aberdeen.
  • Both teams have scored in three of Hibernian’s four away league games this season.
  • Hibs have scored in ten of their 12 Premiership away games of 2021 and only tasted defeat twice during that time.

Dons don’t look capable of ending dismal run

Aberdeen need to end a five-game sequence of defeats at home to Hibernian this weekend in order to get their season back on track and possibly save under-fire manager Stephen Glass’ job.

The Dons faithful have been demanding action be taken at boardroom level after last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Dundee saw the Reds slip further into dangerous territory at the wrong end of the table.

It is over two months since Glass last oversaw a win, since when his team have been knocked out of Europe and the League Cup during a run of two draws and eight defeats. The Scotsman was seen as a risky appointment anyway, given his lack of experience, and he found it hard to turn results around while in interim charge of Atlanta United a year ago.

Reluctant to abandon his attacking principles, Glass’ Dons look set to carry on as before with full-backs pushing so high that opponents can expose their under-manned defence in transition. Hibernian are well-equipped to do just that with their 3-5-2 formation spearheaded by internationals Martin Boyle and Kevin Nisbet.

Ross no stranger to road wins with Hibs

Only Rangers have bettered Jack Ross’ team for number of Premiership away wins since the start of last season, so we like their chances of adding to Aberdeen’s misery here.

In addition, both teams could well end up on the scoresheet to continue a pattern of six times in the last eight Aberdeen games and three of the four Hibs away trips so far. Ross’ side have been regular scorers on the road throughout 2021 and their only failure to notch this term came in a superb Edinburgh derby when both goalkeepers were excellent.

Hibs have the finishers to punish the Dons unless they go back to basics and focus more on defence, but Glass’ previous record suggests it won’t change – leading to the score prediction of a 2-1 away win.
