Tip Reasoning

  • Bournemouth have won three of their last six Championship games by more than one goal.
  • Peterborough have conceded a league-high 33 goals away from home this season.
  • 10 of Peterborough’s 12 away Championship games of 2021-22 have seen the visitors lose by more than a goal.

Cherries should push for goals against Posh

Peterborough’s defensive record away from home has become a joke this season and there’s no sign of it getting better ahead of Monday’s meeting with table-toppers Bournemouth.

Posh have shipped 33 goals in 12 away games so far, nine more than any other team in the division, and they have already sustained ten defeats by greater than a one goal margin on their travels this term.

Darren Ferguson’s team defended superbly when the sides met at London Road in September in a game that finished goalless, but they have kept only one further clean sheet – at home to Barnsley – in 13 games since. Posh could be either fresh or rusty after a 16-day break from action, but midfielder Joe Ward is currently the only player that is isolating and he could yet be involved if he provides a negative test beforehand.

Christmas has seen Cherries’ rise to the top

The Cherries’ charge to the top of the table has gathered momentum since Christmas with back-to-back wins over QPR and Cardiff taking them four points clear of Fulham. Both victories were obtained with clean sheets and it’s hard to see how a Peterborough attack that averages 0.5 goals per game on the road gives them trouble here.

One mistake or moment of magic could ruin a win to nil bet, through, so our preferred option is to back Bournemouth – or rather oppose a poor Posh defence – to cover a -1 handicap. A 2-0 home victory still appeals the most in correct score options because Bournemouth have scored at least two goals in 10 of their 12 home Championship matches this term.
