Ajax to pay for collapse in Eredivisie

Ajax have endured a monumental collapse at the summit of the Eredivisie and their season is set to end with a whimper rather than a bang going into Sunday’s clash with FC Twente.

In mid-April, the Amsterdam club were nine points clear of PSV at the top with five games to go.

But their subsequent three matches featured a 4-0 loss to Utrecht, a 1-1 draw with Sparta Rotterdam and a 3-0 defeat at home to NEC.

It looked as though they might steady the ship with a win away to Groningen on Wednesday but Ajax shipped a 99th-minute goal to draw 2-2, making it four games without a win.

As a result they have allowed PSV, who have won six games on the spin, back into the title race and punters should not rush to back them to get it right against Twente.

Twente should sniff an opportunity

Twente’s form has fluctuated but they have won two of their last three matches and they pushed AZ Alkmaar close in a 3-2 defeat on Wednesday.

They secured a 2-2 draw against Ajax back in November and with the Amsterdam outfit wounded by their recent run, Twente are worth a bet to avoid defeat again.

As for a correct score, a 1-1 draw is the way to go with Twente drawing two matches by that scoreline in April.
