Lens to Win

Reason for tip

Lens have won seven of their last 10 home league games while Nice have lost five of their last six away Ligue 1 contests. The visitors are in freefall at the moment and lost away at Paris Saint-Germain in the cup on Wednesday while Lens have had a free week.

Ligue 1 is Lens’ sole focus

Lens look good to record another home win when they face an out-of-form Nice at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday.

Franck Haise’s side saw off second-placed Brest on their pitch last weekend to move above Nice in the table and close in on the top four.

Lens’ deployment of a high-intensity, pressing game has been aided by their exit from the Europa League last month. Le Sang et Or are now solely focused on the league campaign and they should be able to avoid fatigue by playing only one game a week.

Nice are in freefall

Nice, on the other hand, are in freefall after losing five of their last six matches in all competitions. Their defensive style took them up to second place in the table at Christmas, but things have fallen apart at the seams since the turn of the year.

Francesco Farioli’s team have taken just five points from their last eight league games and lost 3-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the cup on Wednesday. The performance, in truth, was fine considering the strength of PSG, but they missed chances and committed errors at the back that will always be punished.

Lens should take the three points here and their odds for the win are good enough to leave it at that. But Farioli appears to have let the brakes off his team a little in recent weeks, leading to more goals in their games, which suggests a 2-1 home victory may have some value in correct score markets.
