Arsenal strengthened their position in the top four last weekend when they played out a 2-2 draw with 4th placed Manchester City at the Etihad, and Manchester United’s failure to beat West Ham in midweek sealed Arsenal’s participation in next season’s Champions League. They are only two points adrift of North London rivals Spurs though, and it would be an excellent end to the season if they could dislodge them from their runners up spot.

They have to look behind them as well though. Manchester City are just three points behind them and have a better goal difference. If Aston Villa pull off a surprising win on Sunday then the Gunners could finish in 4th.

The draw on Sunday extended Arsenal’s unbeaten streak to eight matches, although only half of them have been victories. They have struggled to play with their usual fluidity at times, but their defence has seemingly been bolstered in training, and they come into this game having kept five clean sheets in their last eight matches.

Aston Villa kept a clean sheet last weekend as they played out a drastically low quality goalless draw with Newcastle, who have since been relegated along with Villa. The only positive from this match is the fact that Aston Villa broke their 11 match losing streak, but they are still winless in 12 games now and have an embarrassing points tally of just 17 points.

Away from home it gets even worse for Aston Villa. They have lost six on the bounce away from home and haven’t won since the opening day of the season, leaving their points tally on the road at just six.

The visitors have failed to score in five of their last seven away games, and the the fact that they are coming up against a defensively in form Arsenal side means that odds of 5/6 for Arsenal to Win to Nil look excellent value. I’m going for a 3-0 correct score prediction at 6/1.
