Under 2.5 goals is the recommendation for Sunday’s Basque derby between Athletic Bilbao and Alaves at San Mames, with unders having been a winning bet in 13 of the last 15 Primera Liga games between these sides.

Athletic Bilbao are fourth in the league, 13 places and 26 points above Alaves and they will be determined to secure Champions League qualification after their Europa League dream was ended by Manchester United on Thursday.

Athletic’s 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad maintained their recent trend of low-scoring league games, with under 2.5 goals in all of their last five matches. This was a decent point for Athletic Bilbao, who had been 21/10 outsiders to win the game.

The last seven times that Athletic Bilbao have hosted Alaves in the Primera Liga have ended with under 2.5 goals and four of Alaves’ last six away games in the competition have also finished with under 2.5 goals.

A narrow Athletic Bilbao win looks the most likely outcome, with 1-0 a decent correct-score pick. At least one team has blanked in seven of the last nine meetings between these sides and 11 of Alaves’ 15 defeats have come by the odd goal.
