The Austria Bundesliga season usually kicks-off in late-July and runs alongside the top European leagues until its conclusion in May the following year. However, due to the sporting disruption caused by the coronavirus, the 2019/20 season is now due to end in July 2020.
The Austria Bundesliga consists of 12 teams that play 22 games each. Following those 22-games the league is split into two with the top 6 sides playing in the Championship round and the bottom 6 taking part in the Relegation round. The teams contesting the 2020-21 season are:
LASK, Red Bull Salzburg, Rapid Wien, Wolfsberger AC, Sturm Graz, Hartberg, Austria Wien, Rheindorf Altach, Admira Wacker Mödling, WSG Tirol, Ried and St. Pölten.
Rapid Wien have won the most Austria Bundesliga titles (32), followed by Austria Wien (24), and current champions Red Bull Salzburg (14).
Rapid Wien might be the most successful team in Austria but they haven’t tasted Bundesliga glory since claiming their last title back in 2007/08, with Red Bull Salzburg establishing themselves as the dominant team in Austria since 2009 with 8 league titles won during that period.
