Austria U21 vs Germany U21 Predictions
Germany head into this meeting with Austria on Sunday knowing that a slip could knock them out, despite their fine start to the tournament. The Germans are aiming to edge into the semi-finals with a third win, as they know that Denmark and Austria are breathing down their neck. While a point would suit the defending champions, Austria have to win to have any chance of going through to the next round. Given that, they should be pushing forward here which will hopefully give us a thrilling game.
Austria have caught the eye of many heading into this tournament, while they kicked off with a 2-0 win over Serbia. However, Austria’s chances of making the semis were dealt a blow after they lost 3-1 to Denmark in their second game. That loss has made them desperate for three points heading into this clash. There was a fear that these two sides would enter the final game with six points each and then play out a draw, which would take both teams through. However, it hasn’t worked out quite like that.
Germany held up their side of the bargain, as they managed to win 6-1 against Serbia last time around. That thumping victory has all but put them in control of this group, as they look to build on their victory in 2017. The defending champions have landed in the easiest of the three groups, but their sustained success at this age group is hard to fault. This is an almost entirely new crop of players from two years ago, but they are just as strong this time around.
Germany have managed to score nine goals in their opening two games, with their only concern coming at the back. They’ve conceded in both games so far. We can see them slipping up again, given that Austria have scored three times across two matches. They were also able to beat France 3-1 ahead of the tournament, so we know they pack a punch.
Even after back to back wins, Germany should do well in this clash. They’ve won 12 of their last 14 internationals, which has taken them into the tournament through the qualifiers and to the verge of the semis. With an impressive attack taking them forward we expect an entertaining win for the champions, which has us backing Germany to win and over 2.5 goals to be scored.
