Austria vs Denmark Predictions

  • Three of the last four Austria home games have seen at least three goals scored.
  • At least three goals have been scored in six of Denmark’s last eight matches.
  • Four of the last six head-to-head meetings have featured three goals or more.

Rangnick’s revival faces greater test from Denmark

Austria enjoyed one of their best performances in years to get a 3-0 win at Croatia on Friday, but Ralf Rangnick’s new side will find things much tougher against a Denmark side now recognised as among Europe’s elite.

Rangnick, in a short time, appears to have fixed some of the issues that have dogged Austria in recent times – such as a defensive sloppiness and a lack of intensity and work ethic in forward areas. One swallow does not make a summer, however, and it will take a huge effort to repeat Friday’s display in Osijek against a well-drilled Denmark fresh off a superb win over France themselves.

Kasper Hjulmand’s team are energetic pressers and almost had the lead within five minutes at Saint-Denis when Joakim Maehle hit the post. They also showed the sort of togetherness and team spirit that has become their trademark over the past two years in coming from behind to register the 2-1 win courtesy of a second-half Andreas Cornelius double.

Goals look likely with Danes in deadly form

Assuming both coaches make minimal changes for this clash, Denmark still look well-equipped to take the victory. Austria’s home record is decent enough, but the Danes memorably thrashed them at Ernst-Happel Stadion in World Cup qualifying last year and know they can win again.

Denmark have scored three or more goals in 40% of their matches since the start of last year and ought to punctuate an Austrian defence that has given up five goals across their last three home contests against Israel, Moldova and Scotland on multiple occasions.

Austria are useful going forward and are worth a goal themselves here, so we will take the more than fair even money about at least three goals being scored in slight preference to Denmark’s match result price and instead back the Danes to record another 2-1 away win in correct score betting.
