Mature performance expected from the Cheese Heads

The 2021/22 campaign is going from strength to strength as far as AZ are concerned, they currently boast a 16-game unbeaten run which culminated in a convincing 4-1 victory at Go Ahead Eagles last time out. That imperious form sees them comfortably in the frame for the European play-offs.

Not only are AZ in fine form, you must look all the way back past 16 home H2Hs to 2007 to find the last time that the Alkmaarders failed to score at least twice against Heracles Almelo. Consequently, I predict that history may well repeat itself.

Away woes continue for the Almeloans

The visitors are really struggling for form this season and a run of seven winless away games (D1, L6) ahead of this clash left Heracles flying close to the sun in terms of a potential first appearance in the second-tier since 2004/05!

Compounding matters for the visitors is the fact that their only competitive away win since March came in the KNVB Cup, that was against amateur Tweede Divisie side, ASWH (3-1). On the evidence, this will be a long night for Heracles.

All in all, I predict an entertaining 3-1 home victory for AZ. The recent form of the hosts is simply irresistible while Heracles can’t stop leaking goals on their travels.
