More Frustration in Store for the Bees

Brentford’s lack of sting up front was once again clear for all to see in their 0-0 draw at Wycombe on Saturday and the Bees could struggle when they take on in-form Barnsley at Oakwell this week.

Brentford were the Championship’s top scorers last season with 80 goals, but they simply don’t pose the same threat this time around minus the talents of Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma who have both since departed for the Premier League.

Thomas Franke’s side have to get their act together fast if they’re to maintain aspirations of facing off against their former stars next season, as Saturday’s stalemate at Adams Park means it’s now just one win in six (D4, L1) for the Bees who are currently well of the pace in 11^th.

And their status as favourites for this Tuesday’s fixture carries little reasoning, as hosts Barnsley are flying. The Tykes made it four wins from five with a cosy 2-0 victory here against Forest on Saturday and they’ve now won their last three at Oakwell.

Valerian Ismael’s charges are unbeaten in five at home (W3, D2) and have lost just one of their last 11 outings at Oakwell (W6, D4) so they are fancied in the Double Chance market for this midweek encounter at a shade of odds-on.

They’ll undoubtedly find Brentford a tougher nut to crack, so while we’re giving preference to the hosts this could easily end all square, which would rack up Brentford’s fifth draw in seven.
